But that doesn't change the fact that all MB markets have softened in the last year or so. There are a lot of guys (especially over on the 500e board) who swear these cars will still pull 30's if in good condition, and while that might be the case in the event that the right buyer is found (read: sale in correct part of country, and someone is in the market for one at that price point), generally speaking I still hold my ground in saying that a pristine 500e/e500 is solidly in the 20's now for all intents and purposes. More than 100k on the clock, and I doubt many will buy for more than 15k. Definitely some quality metal for under 10 even nowadays. So its a good time to be a buyer!
A little over three years ago I purchased my C43 with 26K miles from Mercedes Benz of South Atlanta for $25K...it was CPO and as showroom as you could find, so like I stated to the 500E poster, it comes down to how satisfied you are and if you received value.

Last year I added a 1971 280SL, a good example, by trading my 2006 C6 Corvette and $5K...for a total purchase of $40K....put another $10K into the Pagoda and it's still at the price point for a 2+ condition car.
Trade a diminishing value Corvette for an appreciating value W113.

The market is soft and there are great opportunities on all somewhat collectable Mercs.

I'm looking at adding a 300CE / E320 Cab....great examples in the mid to high teens, and some still holding out for the mid to high twenties of a year ago !!!

Consider value..buy a Cab for $15K, put another $5K to bring it back to factory spec and for $20K you have a car that if you wanted to replicate with a new model, would run $50K - $60K.

You'll find that in the USA coupes, cabs, 500E's are bottoming, buy them now and a good example may double in price in a few years...

Just look at the Euro and UK markets for these vehicles...double our prices at the current time !!!

WOW.... ONLY 10.000 DOLARS?

That car In my country (Portugal) cost 22.000€ ... (that is 27.000 Dolars or more).

Please see that link with a 500E to sell in Portugal. Compare the price to the price of 500's E in America.

RBY, my Cab experience is right in line with your estimates. I budgeted $16K-$17K with stereo to reach great condition by my standards.

It is by a wide margin the most car I have ever received for this kind of money.

Avantgarde, how are the import laws?

Oh my friend

Portugal is inserted on EU (European Union) and the import taxes are very expensive. If I buy an 94 W124 E320 with extras for 4500 dolars to import, I will pay more than 15.000 dolars in Portugal only to legalize my car.. And the W124 final price is 4500 dolars (car price)+15.000 for import laws..
I hve an W124 200D and the price of my car in 1998 is 14.000€ .. maybe 18.000 dolars or more. We have here a lot of W203 imported from germany, because the cars are more cheaper.. The germany is an European Union country, so the import taxes are cheaper.
In my country the prices

My dream is buy a 500E... but here a nice 500E is 30.000 €.. 30.000€ is
47.000 USD

Sorry for my enlish/american

Your english american is great, so is your taste in cars!

Hopefully you'll see a market fluctuation like we have seen.

I would agree with all of the above. Actually my C43 purchase was pretty much the exact timeframe and specs as yours. CPO, low miles, local one owner car, full records, etc etc. I don't know if the C43 will ever become what the 500e has (probably not), but at least I know that this one is a keeper. I have considered getting into a lower value cab to do an m119 and 500e style widebody swap, but I'm starting to think that splurging a bit more and picking up a nice 500e is the better idea here. '93 MY's are very affordable these days, now if only I could find one in green or that metallic red (can't think of the color codes off-hand). Pre facelift all the way is all I can say

Trust me...I used to be all about the facelift, but in person the pre looks sooooo much meaner. The post just looks like every other mid-late '90's MB sedan.....

Also, in black, a blacked out grill on a pre-facelift car when done correctly looks way more aggressive than a black out grill on a post facelift car IMHO

And last but not least, RBYCC is correct that after '93 they lost some power due to emissions standards

I favor the pre face lift cars as the really aggressive AMG W124's including the Hammers and Widebody coupes were all pre face lift....but I'm a bit prejudiced as I own a 1988 coupe !!!

Looks like I will be adding a 94 face lift cab with 44K miles, polar white, light grey cladding over navy leather and navy top...

Paying more then most would pay, still under $20K, but seems very, very clean one owner...

Florida seems to be the place to find low mileage cabs....

YOU FREEGIN DOG! That was my fall back car when I bought mine: They would not even talk about $20K when I talked to them! CONGRATS!

With only 3000 or so of these cars out there, I bet 2500 are still runnin' roads.

Take the car RBY, I've never been happier with a "used" car in my life.

I wager this becomes your favorite car,
fast-on-demand is fun but topless-on-demand makes every day a little more fun. (and the car is WONDERFUL bone stock)

That's my favorite color combo- I bought a sweet/loaded 2008 Nissan Frontier 4dr extended cab yesterday in your same colors.

:::jealous:::

Facelift comments:
I love both. I prefer the spiffy updated look on the cab, but also love the more aggressive looking old school Sportline. The facelift may 'blend in' a little more w modern cars, but the old school look 'stands out' in it's own way.

I doubt I will ever convert one either way. I'll take Ginger AND Mary Anne.

Oh, and sorry for the hijacked thread.

KIND OF OFF THREAD, BUT ADDRESSES OLDER MERC MARKET VALUES

I've got a 71 W113 280SL which is restored and worth a lot.
My wife enjoys driving a the roadster in the summer, alternating with her C43.

Started looking for something with a power top that included a BMW Z4 3.0SI and a 330CI...but BMW's are depreciating values whereas the older lower production Mercs are leveling out and appreciating...

I first found this 85 500SL Euro AMG roadster documented 14K miles @ $27.7K
The deep AMG wheels are probably worth $8K....magnificient car, but another one I don't want her to drive !!!

Ended up buying today 1994 E320 Cab, one owner, full documentation, window sticker, books, keys, wind deflector with 44,173 miles for $19.9K out of Delray Florida.

High but pristine.....a year or so ago they were selling in the high twenties and some at Merc dealers still are...

Sure I'll and she will enjoy it...shares many of the parts with my 1988 300CE.

Alright, lost my wager. But sweet, renovated and hiding in the garage is different than I was talking about. My former 380SL, not in any similar value class with your SL, but I bet I used it similarly, which is "kept near perfect, hiding in the garage waiting for real nice weather. No kids."

The power top changes that altogether. I often park the Sportline and drive the Cab just in case we encounter top-down opportunities.

Anyway, congrats again. When I spoke to them a month or so ago, they were at $22,900 - when I asked if they'd consider close to $20, they said no. You took that car at a great moment, they had seller-fatigue.
