300CE ?
1988 300CE

Hi,

I am considering buying an ‘88 W124 300CE. It has about 89,000 miles and is listed for a little bit under $5,000. I have a few questions:

- What are potential trouble spots I should check?
- Is it a reliable car?
- Is it durable?

Any input appreciated.
Thanks.

88 260 E
Yes, since an 88 will not have the wiring harness issues of the 91 -95 W124's

1) Make sure the AC works properly, very expensive to fix
2) Head gasket leak (white exhaust smoke, oil in coolant etc) all signs of a potential head gasket leak
3) Does the tranny shift as it should, don't be surprised at the slow acceleration as the W124's start in 2nd gear.

Any car is reliable and for the most part durable if it's treated right, just make sure you inspect it throughly as it is a 20 yr old car.
