W 124 front bumper repair/replace?

My 95 E320 front bumper was backed into. The left side of the bumper's middle section is cracked from top to bottom (4-6") and the end is popped away from the piece behind it. The insurance company's "preferred vendor's" estimate shows replacing the impact cushion for $22.50 and using flex additive, paint and clear coat to overhaul, repair and refinish the bumper. Is this a typical fix or should I insist on a new bumper?

I'd have to see a picture to understand what you're saying, but it sounds to me like you just need a new impact strip and some paint...

Parts, labor and paint should be around $500 which would include a new bumper assembly and impact strip....

Not sure how good of a repair you could do on the bumper if it's split.
Usually cheaper to replace then repair as you'll have a few manhours to repair and sand the bumper prior to painting.

Thanks RBYCC. Can you tell me what parts are typically in the bumper assembly. I assume the impact strip is the part that's cracked.

Aftermarket impact strip is $165 + $50 to paint.
