I have the stock shocks....

Chocolate Thunder has been asking about a new set of springs, but his air suspension is not up for discussion.

STLE, could you give a brief review of what one might experience with new springs, stock shock system?

I've never ridden in another w124, period. So I have no idea about the comparison about the ride quality from stock to after-market shocks. All I know is when I put the springs on, it made a HUGE difference in the stance (obviously) and the cornering capabilities. It's still sometimes a little bouncy at certain parts of roads I'm familiar with. But overall, I don't think the new shocks would make a huge difference. I plan to get 500e swaybars soon though

How did you get your car to sit soooooooooo-looooooooowwwwwwwwww? Unless I am mistaken (which wouldn't be anything new), I thought I'd read in one of your earlier post's you have yet to install (or have installed) your new spring's? Your car's stance is absolutely wicked.

1995 E320 wagon
Just did the Bilstein sport with H&R sport springs drop on my E320 wagon. All new strut bearings and lower spring caps as well.I think we didn't adjust the rear SLS hydro suspension correctly because I have a raked look.I will take pics soon because there are some other issues as well that I need help with,(3mm spacers in front causing highway vibration at 55mph).

Well, as luck would have it, now that I've decided on which spring's to go with, it appears most of the H & R Spring distributors here in California....are out of my spring's! They apparently only get their deliverie's from Germany every six to eight week's. Back to the internet!

STL, the bounciness you're experiencing is because you need new shocks.

I did H&R's with stock shocks for over a year. The shocks were nearly worthless by the end of it and I would bounce all over the place.

When I put on the Bilsteins, it made a world of difference... the handling improvement was better than when I went from stock springs to the H&R's. I definitely should've waited until I had the money to do both at the same time because it was much cheaper overall.

Thank's for suggesting the Tyre Rack V9. They just happened to be the second place I called this morning. BTW, just incase not everyone is/was aware of it, there exist's two H & R part number's for the W124 chassis; 1) P/N 29569-1 -1.3" drop both front and rear, 2) P/N 29569-2 -1.5" drop for the front and 1.3" drop for the rear (this is the set I am looking for).

Which one's did you get in the end V9?

I am with you Saijin_Naib. I've alway's preferred the raked-look myself. Also, the fact my car currently sit's almost level, I would like to minimize the gap between the front tyre and wheel-arch.

I think perfectly flat, same gap front and rear, really does look best. Lower in the rear looks worst, since it makes the car look like and old broken down car. My car looks slightly raked, with about 1/4 inch more gap at the rear on the passenger side. The driver side is just slightly higher in the front so it seems more flat. The front passenger side is a bit lower, maybe even more now because of the leaky HD shock. My car sat about the same way with my factory set-up before the new springs, but of course it was about 1-inch to 1.25-inches higher. With narrower gaps all around, the difference from front to rear can be more noticeable. I thought about swapping the spring pads one more time to try to get to perfectly flat, but decided against it when I realized the front to back rake was different on the driver side and passenger side. Now I'm waiting to see if the gaps change when I switch from 6-year-old Bilstein HD shocks to new Bilstein Sport shocks.

HRs and Bilsteins + sway bars tbd are now on order for the Cab. Sportline suspension money was too much when I read how much some respected posters like this set up.
