AC vents

OK this is strange and perplexing. My AC blows out the defrost vents on top and won't change back to the front vents. I tried repeatedly pressing the defrost and quickle the normal buttons to no avail. Before someone says it, yes I DO have the front vents opened. It has not always been like this but has been for some time now and I live in south Florida so I NEED the front vents to cool the entire car.

Get a new push button control unit or one off ebay...that's your issue most likely. I have one I can sell you for $100 plus shipping if you'd like...I think new they are around $800

vacuum pods or vacuum leak

Aren't there vacuum pods that control flaps that change the direction of air flow?

Don't these have a rubber diaphram that cracks and so the pod won't move the flaps depending on what button is pushed?

Aren't there rubber connectors that attach the vacuum lines to the pods, that can also crack and leak?

I would check vacuum at the distribution junction behind the glove box or passenger air bag before replacing the control module.

It's a tricky system, so good luck.

Do you think this could also explain my door locks no longer working? They are vacuum operated too aren't they? All the other control buttons are working properly, that control the air flow.
