Probably just some exhuast items deleted and a little better asparation (maybe cam stuff). For years Japan has had much lighter emissions and dmv rules allowing cars to use different parts aimed more at performance. The Japanese version of the Subie STi Had about 25 hp more than the US for a couple of years. That'spart of the apeal of a euro/asian version of alot of cars.

If AMG wanted to tweak an engine without going crazy, they would polish and port the heads, add a hotter cam, and redo the exhaust.

My e420 is a 4196 cm3 putting out 275 HP that is .0655 hp/cm3. as to a 5.0 m119 that is 4973 cm3 pushing 326 HP (in early models) which is the same right at .0655 hp/cm3.. that 400e amg had 312 HP which is at .075 and change HP/cm3, given the same treatment to the 500e it would come out to be 373 HP! that cant be right! because the late 500es only had 315 HP...also the gains from a port and polish job really wont show unless it has better intake and exhaust, and the intake appears to be stock to me.. i need to find out what has been done to that 4.2!

The intake manifolds look stock, but whos to say they didnt use different higher flowing filters? Regardless, a higher flow intake wouldnt make much difference to a stock engine. My bets are that they did do engine work. P&P would be standard. Possibly modified compression.

Or we could have a case of the everpossible exaggerating owner.

The only way to know for sure: BUY IT! haha and have that puppy shipped to the states.

OK... check this out.. found 2 more of them for sale in japan..

http://n-benz.ruhenheim.com/details.php/525/

and this one..

http://page9.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/jp/auction/k52568856

both said 312 HP but on the second link.. in one of the pictures it had a AMG tag.. with 230kW/5750 RPM and 425Nm/4000 RPM.. i guess the owner wasn't BSing.. damn, that's 37 more HP than my car! P & P wont do much if the engine is not breathing any better.. and even if it was its got to have hotter cam to even get the full benefit of head work.. it just don't make sense because if you are going to do all that why didn't they just throw the 5.0 crank in it or better yet just buy a 500e! i think there is still a lot of hidden power in the m119..
