what tires to use?

i have a set of 18" AMG Monoblock staggerd rims. What tire dimensions do i need to use for my rear tires. i tried 265/35/18s and they seem to come out too much and might rub when i get lowering springs on it. could i use 245/40/18s on it? what do you guys think? i heard i could on go as far as 225/35/18s in front. i have a 94 e320 coupe by the way. and im a newbie...let me know what you think...

I had the same question, but after driving all over town I got this recommendation. By the way I have a staggered set of Carlsson Replicas 18" I bought from ramblux.

The recommendation and consensus at most of the tire shops I went to was that I should go with:

Front 245-40 ZR18 (+3/4 - 2" - Wider than stock)
Rear 255-35-ZR18 (+.05 - 2 1/4" - Wider than stock)

Goodyear Eagle F1

I drive a 91 300CE. I am not sure if this info helps you for your car, I am going to be picking a set some time next month and I will post pics of the wheels and tires installed.

The max I would go with that size wheel is a 245/40-18 in the rear. I have 245/40-17 in the rear right now and I have no issues whatsoever...

225/40-18 front if you take care of the fenders, etc. You can even get away with 235's...

I'm guessing you have the W210 E55 wheels?

Question? So are you saying that what I was recommended was something that will not work? I am not sure what to get, been told so many things all the way from:

235-40-18
225-40-18 to all kinds of other suggestions.

I am new at this whole tire wheel thing so any more info I can get would be greatly appreciated.

rubbing concerns

hi guys!

i currently have the 265/35/R18s on the rear to check the rubbing issues and it does when i have a passenger at the back.(only the rear passenger tire rubs)i have 245/40/R18s i can try tomorrow. i plan to lower it by using h&r springs in the future so the rubbing really concerns me. i heard that 255/35/R18s are the way to go with this rims but only on the wider E500s its also recommended that i have the fenders rolled...how much does that cost? im really at a cross roads and am thinking of giving up on this plan. im leaning towards selling the amgs and sticking to my lorinser d93s and just lower the car. but then again, the staggered amgs gives the coupe a meaner look! need more inputs...and thanks for the inputs!
