here is an explanation of what this does and so far its making me believe it is it

Mercedes Steering Damper (Shock) 300E (FROM EBAY)

This is a NEW steering damper (shock) for your W124 Mercedes-Benz automobile. The steering damper reduces vibration and response (kick back) from uneven surfaces, especially when they are encountered other than straight on. A worn out damper passes extra, higher frequency vibration on to the rest of the steering system components, which increases wear on the system. When you put a new one on, it will slightly stiffen the steering feel and it should smooth the response to road irregularities, and reduce wear to the rest of the system. Once off the car, if you compare the old part to the new part, the difference will be very apparent. The change out is an easy 10-minute DIY job. This is a quality OEM part is being offered at significant savings over the identical item at your dealer or other retail store.

You may need a new idler arm bushing but it's a B!tch to change!!

Check your ball joints and the steering damper.

berti, I probably can solve your problem. I had the same problem 6 months ago. I bought new wheels and tires. I took my car in the nearest tire shop and they told me that my new wheels has a little gap at the hub where the wheels are mounted, which cause your steering wheel to vibrate. the wheel didn't fit perfectly, even though it was on the hub. You need the hub center rubber ring that goes onto your hub. There are different sizes depending on the size of your wheel center (center hub) to your center hub on your car. IT will cost you around $20 for all four rings. Hopefully, i helped you

Alignment? Re-balance? Since everything is new (tires, wheels, brakes) maybe the weights fell off during the work?
