Can't get o2 sensor off 93 400E

Read a few write-ups of how to do this job in other threads, but I am not having much luck getting mine off. I have tried 2 sockets and also an Autozone o2 sensor removal toolkit, no luck. The thing turns, barely, but it seems as though the sockets keep slipping off. I've dented the exhaust trying to torque the damn thing out. Ended up cutting the wire off so I coudl use a regular socket over the bolt, still no luck. What's the catch here? The heat shielding is all shot to hell, no shield that I can even see to remove, though there does appear to be some crusted shielding that may have flaked off into the sensor "well." Any tips?

O2 removal

Hi Will, have you tried a torch, heat works wonders, also a cheater bar will give you move leverage. Soak it with PB blaster then try the bar. ( I use a 3/4 in copper pipe. Smedley

Use the torch but keep a spray bottle of water next to you. get the 02 sensor as hot as you can without lighting up the car then immediatly spray it off with water. repeat that a couple of times. The change from heat and cold will break the bond of the threads on the metal and it will turn right out. if that doesn't work then go to the bigger breaker bar or get greater heat on it.

I used a big 1/2 drive flex head with the MB o2 sensor socket, ended up stripping the threads off the old sensor, tough work but someone had to do it haha. That happens sometimes, you might need a tap to re tap the boss after you get your old one out. Its like a m10 maybe?
