300TD 1992
Smile Turbo Conversion

I want to convert my 300TD (1992) to Turbo. Has anyone done this and know how easy or difficult it is?

Apart from obtaining a turbo, inlet manifold, exhaust manifold and some oil and water cooling parts are there any other items that I should be aware of.

I know that the cylinder head is different on the factory Turbo to that of the non turbo, but is it necessary to have a new cylinder head as well.

The factory fitted turbo produces 31% more hp and 43% more torque than the non turbo. Has anyone any experience of doing the conversion and seeing what the improvement is like? Is it worthwhile?

I am in the process of converting the car from auto to manual transmission as well which should improve the driveability, since I will be able to pull away in 1st gear instead of 2nd in the auto box.

Mercedes-Benz 300D TURBO 1987
diesel to turbo diesel

The least expensive way to change is to replace the engine with a Mercedes built turbo charged diesel engine. The 603 engine from the 300D Turbo (6 cylinder) was only sold in the U.S. in 1987.
There are places that can change the tranny so it starts in first gear instead of second. P.

Yea, regarding the starting from first issue.

If you wanna drive sporty, use the manual selector in the center console. By keeping her in "2" from a stop, it will stay in first until you redline near 7k or until you let her shift by movin to "3."

I race people every so often and I just use that.

Good luck! I wanna do a manual convert to, but people say it just isn't gonna work.
