abs? brakes?

For the last few weeks I've been having this problem where when I am approaching a stop my brakes will let go and grab (abs) style but this occurs when I am not braking with force. Most of the time it happens when I start braking softly and then a little harder. Is this a sign that my abs is going out?
My car has around 80k miles on it.
any help?

Are you saying that the brake pedal is 'pulsing', or that the brakes suddenly grab? Any engine/trouble lights on?

No the brake pedal stays firm when I am pressing on it, the brakes just let go and grab as if the abs would turn on but the speed is too slow and not in need of abs.
Does that make sense? lol

No dash light's whatsoever.

This may be a slightly non parallel rotor. Does it feel like the car is pulsing as it slows down? More like grabbing and letting go.

No, it is definitely not the rotor pulse. The rotors were replaced a few months back, and the way it grabs and lets go is like when you slam on your brakes and the abs turns on same sound and everything.

Well I would try cleaning the speed sensors. They get metal filings on them and also clean the teeth on the hubs on the front wheels. The rear sensor is normally ok as it is in the rear diff.
This is at least a good place to start.

I have had a problem with the front ABS sensor wires. They had a couple breaks in them. They are pretty pricey to replace, but I cut and soldered them back together. You can check this by using a continuity meter on the connector and then bending the wire around. Solved my problem, but may not be that same as you have. Just a thought.

Its possible that one of the new rotors has split,,they are cast iron, and they can do this,,just because the are newish does not mean that they are not faulty

This is the first place to start, especially if you are not getting any ABS lights.

Than look at the ABS controller in the enclosed bulk head dead center. Check for any green staining.

Thanks a lot for all the responses. ^Going to check the speed sensors first and go through the list from there if needed.
