Does it eventually go solid on ?
I just replaced the relay that controls the rear defroster.
My defroster hasn't worked for years....
Now I get an initial blinking, goes solid on and the defroster melts the frost..
Rare we get frost but I tried it yesterday and it worked !!

actually when the defroster light is blinking it means that there is a low voltage condition. Same goes for the heated seat lights. When the blinking starts those items are disabled.
I would check the ground wires for a good clean connection, check the voltage regulator and finally the alternator.
Mine would do it while in stop and go traffic, during colder <20 temps...new voltage regulator cured it for me.

Here is a link for your 94 e320 -
http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro...ge%20Regulator
The regulator is mounted in the back of the alternator...2 screws and you just pull it out. (for my 89 300e at least)
The brushes on the regulator where over time therefore voltage output is reduced significantly.
Here is the info for your model -(looks like there are a few more steps for your model but still an easy job)

Yeah my seats and rear window defrost used to do that quite a bit. I just replaced my alternator about a month ago and have yet to use either feature but I think that was the cause because when it was happening, my car's alt was only putting out around 35A
