Curious...
So, I have a 1992 300E 2.6L, 110k miles, and was curious about it's acceleration.. This thing accelerates REALLY slow, if I'm at a stopsign, then floor it, it will start off really slow, like if you're hardly pushing the petal down.. I wasn't sure if this was because it has a small engine, or because there is something preventing it from accelerating fast(a friend said something about a govener?)
Anyway, it just seemed pretty weird
ANyway tank, do this.
Before you leave your garage get out of the car and look down at where the pedal is. You'll see a little black circle thing past the pedal mounted there. You notice that when you push the pedal (gas pedal) the pedal will become close to hitting that black thing. If you truly "floor" the car then your pedal should not only touch that thing but make it "click."
When your car is off, push the accelerator pretty hard to make it click, you should hear it and feel it. People have different names for that thing, I just call it a power button. It usually drops you a gear and gets you goin real fast. I have an 89 with 300k miles and the car still pushes the passengers' bodies back when i click that thing.
From a stop floor it hard (you probably wont hear it click cause the car is on and theres lots of noise) and see what kinda result you get. You can also push that button while moving and it will get you moving faster, faster.
Also, try using the manual selector to max out the gears. You can keep her redlined in gears longer and shift when you want to shift by using the selector. (well, pretty much)
Try the "hard floor" from a stop and then come back and tell us what happened. If its still "weak" then, well, I don't know cause that phrase is relative... ... but you might have a problem we can try to diagnose then.
Just wanna make sure the seat to car interface is working properly b4 moving on to other items
!!
Never noticed that little button before, heh. Before when I floored it I didn't push hard enough to depress that button
Thanks for the info =p
