Question Doing a Service Myself

I i was thinking of saving a bit of money by doing a service on my 93' 300ce myself. i have a general knowledge of cars an feel quite confident i was just wondering if anyone had any areas i should watch out for or check, maybe like a check-list or something would be really useful.

all i would do would be change the oil (what oil should i use?) an swap the air filter (what about a K&N?) i wouldnt really know what else to do.

so some general information from anyone who has serviced there own CEs would be great.

cheers

Just use a well known oil brand 10w40 in the summer and 10w30 in the winter. Change every 5000 miles. Air filter is and air filter is an air filter (for the most part)

Stay away from the K&N filters. They're more hype than anything.

Do you have the proper oil cap wrench for the job? Otherwise the job will be difficult.

well i was a mechanic with chrysler jeep dodge for about 3-4 months but then i got banned so lost my job, i still have a nice set of snap on tools so i have the tools for the job. its more time i havent got.lol

but that was about 2 years ago so im a bit rusty.

What i would really like to know is weather the car will last, an i should spend some money on it, or weather i should sell it while it works.

i would love to keep it an start spending some real money on it but it has done 191K the engine seems nice theres a bit of tapping when i start it an its cold but apart from that,, it pulls well an the gear box seems fine, i was wondering if there were any tell tale signs that i should be aware of.

any ideas??

it all depends on what kind of miles are on it. 191k for one driver is like 50k and 400k for another. these cars are a bit pricey to maintain so expect that. they are nice cars all things considered.

It won't last. Sell it now.

Viper, that's a personal question that only you can really answer. Some people have a higher tolerance than others for car repair. Some are happy to keep any car running forever, others sell it the minute things start going wrong.
