Anybody know how this plastic part behind wheel comes off?

Would this require the entire wheel to come off?

As you can see I got some wood from the junkyard off a later 300E and would like to make this work

I'd rather not have to change the wood to fit "around" this plastic thing if possible...

Anybody happen to know this?

The later wood fits in a recess, to make it fit on the early car it won't be flush and it looks like you need to Dremel trim the wood or collar to make if fit around the column. I don't even notice the wood on later cars because it's mostly out of sight. The aftermarket wood made for early cars wraps up to the ledge and covers most of the glove door. It's nice but pricey ~$400.

That collar type trim piece is attached to the plastic trim that houses the headlight switch and ignition switch.

Pull the headlight switch knob out, behind that will be a nut that you need to loosen and remove. Once removed gently start to pry from the left side of the trim and work your way across. Careful once you get to the collar as the clips are easy to break.

The wood trim on the later models is recessed into the dash (wood sits flush with dash) as some have mentioned and might not look right with out the later model dashboard as well.

Good luck and post pics once completed.

Thanks. I think you guys are right though...it won't sit flush even with this out.

I'll just dremel the wood

What the heck...I paid $8 for it LOL! Also behind the wheel I doubt anybody would notice if its not 99.9% flush due to the dremel work.
