Clear Corner Light Legality

Hey guys,

I have a 1992 300E. Right now it has the stock orange front corner lights. I was interested in getting the clear corner lights, the euro's. I was wondering if these are legal, i have heard many different stories ranging from "manufactureres will switch to euro styles in a year or so" to "if cops see it they will impound it on the spot".

Well, i was really curious and was hoping to give my MB a newer and better looks

Thanks!

Hey there...to answer your question...

For Canada, (which is most likely to be the same in the US with respect to lighting laws) the signal lights must be amber (yellow) in the front and amber or red in the rear. to solve this issue with clear corners on the front, (which i am in the process of doing) you can a) use yellow/amber bulbs inside the lights which don't look all that great cause you still see a bit of yellow..or the better looking alternative b) get yellow/amber bulbs that have a silver cap on the tip which hides the yellow bulb when the lights are off.
And there you have it...yellow signal lights with out the ugly yellow signal lights ....

Happy motoring:p

I am able to get clear bulbs the shine amber yellow. for the rear you can put a coat of silver on the top of the bulb so the amber can not be seen but it will still shine amber yellow.

And being from california (toughes laws around) You can have clear corners as long as the bulb shines amber yellow.

thanks for confirming my post soldsep...I hate bieng wrong
The only problem with painting bulbs is that the heat either causes them to wear off or burn out faster because of "foreign material" causing hot spots...they do make afermarket bulbs with silver caps but your idea works as well...

Regards

Euros and clear corners

Euro's are the original headlight designed for the Mercedes. When the head of the D.O.T. mandated in the 80's that all imports must use the small oblong type bulb as American cars, many European makers had to have plastic filler panels (headlight surrounds) to fill in the space. These American-style headlights give very poor lighting and look aweful when the plastic becomes opaque and cracks. Mercedes dealers sell clear corners with an amber stripe at the rear, but aftermarket dealers like Bekkers sell the original, exact replacement, Euro as well as totally clear corners which take an amber bulb. There is not police officer who would know that Euro's were not original on your car. If stopped, simply explain that your car came this way (just like '94-95 models). Puma Accessories may be the lowest price for Euro headlights. Send me an e-mail at pkmaven@hotmial.com and I will send you a before and after picture. P.

the cops are not looking for if u have clear corners. they are looking to see if it flashes yellow. U can say it came like that and they will still give u a ticket. bottom line it must shine yellow.
