Need help power seat stuck '86 300E
My driver's seat is stuck fully reclined because it will recline but not go back. It is not the switch since it is a brand new switch. I heard something about a relay in the trunk. Please, I need help to get it fixed it's my daily driver. Thanks in advance.
P.S. Both the seat back and the seat bottom will not move in one direction. The seat back will not come back up and the seat bottom will not move back, only forwards.

The switch is brand new as in MB brand new OEM part. I'm assuming from what I've read here in the forums that it is either the convenience relay or the motor itself. But since I can't get to the motor some guidance would be great. Thanks for your help guys.

Well It wouldnt make any sense for the motor to only be broken in one direction. The relay also would stop all functionality of the switch. I had the same problem a few months ago, and disassembly of the switch fixed it. My contact points were dirty and not making good connection. If you didn't order from a dealership, I would be willing to bet you got a used/refurbished part.
I am not aware of the location of the relay or I would give it to you so you can rule it out...

Well I took it apart to clean it, but it looks brand spanking new inside. So I figured I might try the passenger seat switch on the driver seat, which didn't work, but I'm not sure if it's because the passenger seat switch doesn't have the memory function.

Im sorry, I did not know you had memory functions on your 86. Im not familiar with those switches. I do know the memory relay is under the seat though.
If your seat was not designed with memory functionality, adding the switch alone will not make it so you can use memory adjustment.

You can supply power directly to the motors and get them back to a more usable position. Look in a manual and try to see which wires are which.
Im still suspicious of the switch though. How open did you get it? Were you able to actually open each individual box inside of the housing?

Sorry about the delay, but I got the switch completely open I got the 16 ***** out and the rockers.
And about getting to the cables, what do you mean a cordless drill will work? How?

Alright guys, just one more problem here, I really appreciate all of your help this is one of the best forum communities I've been a part of. Now the three motors under the seat allow me to adjust the entire seat forwards or backwards position and the seat height but it will not let me adjust the backrest height. Which is my biggest problem, if someone can assist me in this I'd greatly appreciate it. After this I will make a full How-To on the seat repair kind encompassing the seat switch, motors and if you guys help me even the backrest.

Have you checked your fuses? I know this sounds basic and elementary but I had the same problem on my 93'. If I remember correctly there are two different fuses for the seats. One of the fuses was blown. I replaced it and presto all functions returned.

I had a problem with my seat moving in every direction, but for some reason, it wasn't going all the way back. Only partially. I checked all the fuses then decided to unplug then replug the wiring harnesses going to the motor and it worked fine afterwards.
