Sunroof problem

Hi all,

I own a w124 250d with a sunroof. When I bought the car 8 months ago the sunroof only tilted and the switch was all screwd up. I fixed the screwy switch with the "white knob in the truck trick". Now all that remains a problem is that the roof won't slide back. My main problem is that to get the headliner out I have to slide the roof back 3/4th of the way. Sinds this feature doesn't work anymore I'm stuck and can't get to the nuts to undo the roof. I have tryed to get the headliner out through the tilt gap with no succes. Can someone please show or tel me the correct way to continue?
I have tryed the search funcion with no real awnsers.

ps. The roof is pulling to one side so I suspect that one of those white plastic guides is blocking the whole roof. (I had my pops push the roof while I worked the switch also didn't work.)

With regards Plouche

This is a great writeup but this guy had his headliner removed before his roof gave out. And this is my main question: How do I get my headliner out without breaking or cracking it when the sunroof won't slide?

If the cable is not broken the crank feature in the trunk should allow you to manually open the sunroof. Search works:

Thanks for this I tryed the manual thing but my sunroof jams up front it wil only slide on one side (and pulls crooked) so it won't open enough for me to even see in the car. This is the reason why I can't get my sunroof headliner out is there any way of getting it out besides sliding the roof open?

Am I correct in thinking because the roof wil tilt the cable is still ok?

Thanks for the help Plouche

Yeah it seems like it could be.

As you are cranking it open manually, have someone manually guide/slide the sun roof back till you reach the opening to remove the panel.
Yeah great write ups. Excellent knowledge base.
But I don't think he likes me.
