They are excellent cars. Easy to maintain/work on. Very reliable. The 240D is especially well known for reliability, and with the 5speed, it would make an excellent every-day driver.

If you want to make it go fast you might try driving it off a cliff... Or if you hook a tow rope onto a semi that may also work. One more that I've heard people having success with is selling their old 240D and buying a new pair of shoes

Bottom line: you can't get a car that moves much slower than a 240D. Mods are limited at best unless you want to do all custom work and figure things out for yourself. Plan on having a spare engine or two if you go that route lol

Not to put down the idea because I work on these cars every day (or some type of old diesel mercedes) and they are remarkably well built. Just don't hope for anything you would consider fast. Top speed on my 1979 300D was 80MPH and that was pinned. Good luck with the purchase!

A fun fact: my 300D had a sticker in the engine compartment that gave a bunch of manufacturer specs. One of them read "Estimated EPA Horsepower: 79". Hope that is a helpful illustration lol
