Now I may be a little biased since I have the 2 tone multicontour perforated leather seats along with birds eye maple wood trim but i know regular w210s are still of good quality.
Probably not too bright....

Guess I erroneuosly concluded that the W210 was the first of the models that began the trend to lesser interior and overall build quality under the cost cutting efforts of Jurgen Schrempp.

I understand that everbody prefers the 500e over the w211?
Just a noob question, is the 500e expensive in maintenance?

The real cost cutting measures came when chrysler came in the picture, and with new 2000+ models, 210s are still very reliable compared to the 211.

Anyway, funny thing, got another friend with a W124 300CE AMG, its pretty nice but I don't see the "superior" build quality that all of you speak off, I prefer the w140/w210.

If you can't see the build quality in a C124, then your friend has a poor example.

I bought my 300CE new in May of 1988, stickered for $53K.
Build quality was the best I've seen on a production car....and I have a lot to compare to from DB Astons, to Jags to Standard Steel Rollers...

Currently own the C124, along with an A124, W202, W113 and a W463.
All pristine with mileage ranging from 36K to 72K
The 124's are the best build quality in my opinion

One of the reason why you CAN'T see the superior built quality is because you never owned one. The fact that you have driven your friends cars it doesn't mean that you know anything about this cars. Perhaps you are driving E55 as per your profile but never the less you never owned w124.

I have owned many, YES many Mercedes cars in my life and there is not other Mercedes IMHO that can hold a candle to W124. As you can see from my profile I own W140 as well, so I can tell you this for sure. I LOVE my W140 but there is something about W124 that no other car have.

I drove the next generation S class (W220) for whole 3 months...I sold it.
Everything in life is about choices, that was mine.
You drive E55...good for you but for me... I am old school W124 and W140. No one on the street turn heads after the NEW Mercedes but just have a look when the old W140 in Navy Blue or Black roll down the street...it's still look like million bucks, today S class....I am sorry but it doesn't have the same stamina.

Just my 2 cents.

I agree with you, W124 and W140 are the best...EVER!

I hate you. Just kidding Man. I'm just jealous. I could not get my hands on that unless i went to Europe for the car. I don't even want to pay the money since i already dumped so much into it already.

Maybe I'm just alot more exposed to old Mercs than new ones, that's why I don't feel the W210s have that old familiar Mercedes 'feel' as compared to W124s. Plus, I have seen and heard W210s breaking down alot earlier than W124s with a similar mileage. Mind you, these aren't those AMG E55s nor 500Es... just normal 230s and the like.

But honestly, I guess the build quality is a little overrated on the W124s. I just spent $600+ worth of bushings and tie rods and the like. Damn Euro parts prices. But boy what a difference they made in the handling and ride.

My car is 15 y/o (no shaking, no noises, comfortable ride, everything is working properly) and I take it on the long road trips, if it was any other make I would not feel comfortable taking it outside the city limits, if it was any other car it probably wouldn't even run at all. I owned 1998 W202 230 previously and it can not compare to my W124 in any way. I owned 10 cars or so in the last 12 years, mostly newer models (Mitsubishi, VW, Honda, Pontiac) and 1994 E320 is my favorite one so far!

Wait until you step into a W126 or W116. The build quality in those surpass both the W140 and the W210 by miles.

when the w210 is as old as the w124 and has as many miles, the superiority will be more obvious.

overrated? your car is what, like 20 years old? when was the last time those parts were changed? ever? you would be hard pressed to find another 20 year old luxury car running, in the numbers you find w124's, let alone in need of just basic maintenance work...

Yes 20 years old, but how about the good ol' W123s? They're alot cheaper to maintain and services require more intervals than the W124s, mainly because everything car related sucks here in the Philippines as compared to other places (dirty gas, ALOT of potholes and whatnot...). I have more than a dozen friends who have changed that damn expensive fuel distributor **** on their cars, but with the W123s all they do is change their dirty inline filters...

I'm just not a fan of the 123's styling that's all. Sorry for the OT.
