Question Hood and lights combo

So how does one go about converting a '91 300e to the newer hood and headlight set up? Where do you get these parts, and how much should I expect to pay? Thanks a lot!

Scrap Yard for a rear end damage car or go to the dealer for new parts from a 94-95 E320/420 Since you need to replace the lights you have the following 3 options: US spec 94-95 headlights, euro spec lights for the 94-95 car which have much better lighting and are similar in price or the last option where money permits and is the best option, 94 E500 EURO headlights, all the better lighting characteristics of euro lights and MUCH COOLER LOOKING. Get those and you will love it. You also need a hood and grill insert assembly and all these parts aren't cheap.. probably 2000 dollars installed (USD) approximately

Hope that helps

As well while you are at it, buy the 94-95 tail lights they are smoked and red as opposed to white orange and red. I forgot to mention in the front you need to get either 94-95 signal lights or completely clear front signal lights

Thanks!

I guess the best case scenario would be getting all the stuff (lights included) off of a rear end collision vehicle. Do you think a wrecking yard would do a trade plus cash for my immac '91 stuff? ($2k is a bit steep).

Changing earlier 124 to '94-95 front

While the easiest way to convert would be to buy a hood from a '94-95 from a bone yard, another option is to buy a hood conversion kit from a source like Tuningzubehor.com. Get their catalog and you will find a kit which includes the piece of steel that welds to your own hood to convert it. This piece is also available from Signatureline: www.slaccessories.com, either way the grille insert alone will cost a lot. Euro headlights are your first step. These are the the original headlights designed for the 124 body and produced by both Bosch and Hella for all MB's sold worldwide EXCEPT the U.S. During the '80s the head of the D.O.T. mandated that all imported cars must have the same oblong headlight as American made cars at that time. Companies like Mercedes had to have a plastic filler made to fill in the void. The plastic becomes opaque and shows tiny fractures as it ages. Mercedes had to have tiny headlight washers made to replace the long ones made for their all glass "Euro" lens. The output from the U.S. headlights is pathetic, and the output from the Euro lights is excellent. www.puma-access.com seems to charge the lowest price for Euro headlights. They fit perfectly because they are the original o.e. headlight for the car. Get the headlight conversion kit first. P.

the parts should only cost around $1000 brand new.

the tuning zubehor idea is nice, but at the tune of $500 for the weld on frame, and the grill insert, plus shipping, its not cost effective to do it at all.

Thats already like $600 or so for that weld on frame. An entire hood for a 94-95 model probably only costs a few hundred.

the euro headlights, should costs anywhere from $250 - $500 depending on if you go OEM or replica, and depending on if you do E500 euros or regular euros.

Overall, including paint and everything, expect this conversion to cost in the range of $1500 and up.

Paint, and installation will be part of that cost, and depending on what you buy, and who you get to paint and install the parts, is something to also be considered.

THe main reason I dont like the wqeld on frame from tuning zubehor is that I dont trust the welds to not crack at some point or another, and all the filling and smoothing, well thats just asking for an imperfect finish on the paint, especially if you dont go with a top notch shop.

you are btter off finding an actual full hood and headlights.

try pat @ www.pgauto.com for the necessary parts.
