My new 300 TE 4 matic Got Pics Need help leveling syst

I got my new 300 te home and love the car it has lots of power! Sorry the pics are bad took with the cell phone. Its tore apart in the garage so I didnt take a pic with the camera.

Here the problems:
1 sway bar up front is broke( right side peice that connects to the A arm wheel)
2 Leveling system stiff
3 Rear bearing bad.
4 Need tune up

1 Do I need to get a new sway bar or can I just get the ends from a junk yard and replace the ends?? What other cars can i get a sway bar from does it have to be the wagon?

2 Under the car on right side theres a lever(hydrolic lines go to it) that connects to the sway bar. the connecter peice is missing!! Can I just put the lever on minimum and pretty much forget about it ( want to lower the wagon) Some info on the leveling system would be nice. Im sure I can get that peice at the junk yard.

3 Gonna order and do it. Can anyone give me a diy link? (makes life easier)

4 Cake But whats the spark plug gap for a 300 te and a 300e (already cleaned engine compartment) What weight oil does the re diff, transfer case front diff take.

The interior is in good shape. Its dark blue. Paints good sun roof works all windows work needs a new stereo. Well I will keep you posted.

PS Psycho2 whats that link to the online manual?

Replace what's broken, should be same as sedan but I'm not sure of the 4matic. They have more unique parts. I've never heard of these breaking either, is anything else broken?

The SLS is unique to the wagon and I've only seen one in the wrecking yard but it's gone now

3 Gonna order and do it. Can anyone give me a diy link? (makes life easier) What tells you the bearing is out, noise, too tight? These don't go out very often.

4 Cake But whats the spark plug gap for a 300 te and a 300e (already cleaned engine compartment) What weight oil does the re diff, transfer case front diff take. I would change the distributor cover and rotor too if the PO hasn't already, specs are in the manual or CD. Search all the 4matic threads, they have unique problems

The interior is in good shape. Its dark blue. Paints good sun roof works all windows work needs a new stereo. Well I will keep you posted. Post more info like mileage and year.

The sway bar didnt actually brake. Its the end piece of the sway bar that connects to the suspension. The left side the bushing slipped out the right side the peice is gone. I will try to take pics later and post.

The self leveling system I can probably make the peice but I need to know how long and get a picture of it. If someone can take a picture it would help and tell me the length.

It makes a humming noise ( is only on one side) and when you turn the corner it goes away. I think my friend got it verified at the dealer.

Story
My friend soldl me his 91 wagon 4 matic 300te for 700 bucks. It has a new engine rebuilt for mb dealer lots of receipts!! Tranny works great and heating system just fixed by mb (blower). Everything on the engine is new. heres what he said is wrong with it. Right rear wheel bearing is bad (making noise), Front sway bar braket broke (bailing wire holding in place), and rear leveling system is stiff. Its got 227,000 miles on the body(highway miles).

As far as the sway bar goes. Just get new parts. The end links will destroy the
sway bar and If you put a new end link on then it will still rattle like crazy and not last very long. Put wheel bearing grease in the end link when installing it and watch for the boots ripping in the future. If you catch it early then you can get away with just repl. a end link. Set the rear suspension up properly. The self leveling system is also your shock absorbers. If you drop the lever all the way you will have no dampening. If it is stiff then you need new nitrogen spheres. Thesee are the dampening, not the pieces that look like shocks. The rear diff uses normal gear oil but he transfer case uses transmission fluid.

Good luck.

I PM'd you link to maintenance manual. Should have all the info you need. Make sure to buy a Haynes manual nonetheless. It contains sometimes a better description and is useful to leave in the car when on the road just in case. Invaluable asset.

Engine looks clean! Its good to see the exhaust manifolds are not coated with oil. Good sign.

Interior looks like it can also shine with a good vacuum and elbow grease.
Also, your front bumper has some dents in it...I'd go to a junkyard and pull a good one. I have those exact same dents in my 260's.

Nice find

Custom made sway bar links cut from a female threaded hose coupling (Threaded for polyurethane to bite on) and a hardened bolt welded onto it. The plastic is a molding tape to hold it on and socket sprayed with pam (so socket isnt crazy hard to get out) hole so swaybar can go threw. In sun for 3 days almost hard will take long time to cure.

Just a thought, in case you have trouble getting the socket out...you can try using either a balsa wood dowel or hot glue stick. That way, once the epoxy cures, you can simply drill out the dowel or glue. Good luck with your project.

1991, 300te 4matic
Nice work, I hope you remember that the transfer case for a 4matic takes ATF fluid... at least my 1991 300te 4matic does.
