i have a 1986 300E with 149k, everything is mint but there is a subtle transmission leak. What are the best ways to fix this? can it be dangerous just monitoring the leak and giving it oil when needed? im not looking to bring it to a shop either because of the high prices.

Wash tranny really good and find were leak is. It might be as simple as a pan gasket.

The most common place that it leaks tranny fluid is the front seal. I have the same deal on my wagon. I gotta top it up every 1-2 months, but it requires the entire transmission to be removed to do a $0.90 seal....I'm just holding out as long as I can.
As said above, pressure wash it and figure out WHERE it is coming from. Its difficult to tell otherwise due to slipstream.

Is it common for these transmissions to leak from the front seal?
