w124 e500 suspension on a w124 e420?
Does anybody know if this set up will work. I'm thinking of putting e500 control arms on a e420, and also using e500 struts.

SLS conversion probably isn't worth it IMO. You might just be better off going with Bilstein Sports and some H&R springs, thats what I would do if I wasn't stuck with the SLS system.
