Nitrous Systems for the M119, Available! 500e, 400e, e420.
I am quoting the 2 fellows most knowledgeable on this topic:
"It has been a while since this topic was discussed and I recall several folks mentioned a group buy in October? While a group buy is fine, you can also order individually. I am standing by to wake up your 500E's and put a smile on your faces."
"Ok here is the system; 100HP with an 80HP jet included and recommended for 4.2L engines. The 100HP jet can be used in the 4.2 if you use a dyno to verify A/F ratio. The 100HP system can produce up to 125HP with the factory fuel pumps. The 100 HP system includes a full kit with detailed instructions. The installation requires removing the MAF body and drilling/tping for the NOS nozzle. It also requires adjusting an aux WOT switch (provided) and wiring to the EZL and interior. If you are a hands on DYI type this is doable. You should use either a wide band O2 or dyno to confirm propper A/F ratio under boost, BEFORE going wild."
"The price for the system is 1995.98 plus shipping. If you guys do a group buy of 5 or more, I will reduce the cost to 1875.98 The bottle is shipped empty and you will need either a wide band O2 or Dyno time to insure the system works correctly. This is a full feature system; Electric bottle valve, Pressure gauge and adaptor, bottle blanket and all the unique features for a M119 LH/Motronic installation.
-Steve of BergWerks"
----------------------------------------------
"Folks, now is seriously the time to jump on this if you have ever even considered a cost-effective way to bump the HP of your car in applications that matter (i.e. stoplight acceleration, drag racing). Steve is doing the community a favor by doing a second production run of these; many of us thought they were gone forever."
"I can tell you as the owner of one that yes, if carefully installed, they WORK and the dyno work proves this. Having 420HP under your *** from a stoplight really does keep you right up with the big boys these days. A 12.89 second quarter-mile isn't shabby, either. For a street car, that's fairly fast."
"For $2K, this is a REAL bargain compared to all of the "other" solutions that people have been banging on about here for the past 5-6 years. Of which very few people have actually done (supercharging, increasing displacement, etc.) because of the sheer cost (a minimal 5.6 or 6.0 is going to run $10-15K plus labor). You can get same HP (albeit not 100% of the time available) for a small fraction of that with the nitrous kit. I've had mine for 5 years now and my own motor has not melted down.

We are hoping to get the group buy ready by mid-late November, but will wait if others are committed. $120 saved is $120 earned. We already have two people signed up. We just need three more.

nitrous systems? Get a cheap japanese econobox if you want a nitro rice rocket. Don't do it to a premium German auto.

But hey...I guess it's fine to rice out a Ferrari 365 GTB 4.
Or dump 24s on a 300SL Gullwing.
orr hell even clunk a 500E for C4C
point being that cars of such specialty and rarity should be left to those who appreciate what they are in stock form and only use OEM equipment for mods or mod things that are easily replaceable. But hey, once again to each his own.

However, I agree with your point that these cars, the original vision of the creators, the advanced and unique engineering, approaches works of automotive engineering art. A snapshot of that period of development
Q. Are these high end examples "defaced" when they are radically altered/updated???

A little info on my personal vehicle:
It has a salvage title. It had body damage when I bought it. It had missing lights, bulbs, horns, interior pieces, and a destroyed sunroof. Not to mention ugly headlights which are going to be changed, and a miserable mesh grill.
I like to think I have saved the poor car from what would have otherwise been a slow process of decay and depreciation. It will never be the example that any collector wants in their garage, but it CAN be the car I want it to be, and that's definitely better than where it was headed.

My car is a Rebuilt (Salvage) as well. It was repaired two years ago with very low miles. Front end was totaled. Frame was ok, but front clip was replaced with "facelifted" front end, by PO.
It will never be a collector car either, but I want it to perform as intended, and as it is renowned for. I am proud to be the owner of a 500E!
Like you, I feel fortunate that I have some licence to modify, but I realise how few are left true to their original form.
David Hendy is on Ecstasy is parting out a second totalled 500, now. I hear of another guy, "Mr. Red", who has lost two 500's, an accident, an arson, and is now modifying a third. YVRBNZ lost a 500 to a spontaneous fire.
Gerry is compiling stats on his Registry of 500's catching fire under the dash or in the cats. He also posted stats from the German DMV. Of the 5,000 cars sold in Germany ( 1/2 of .036 production), if I recall correctly, less than a 1,000 are now registered.
And now... Cash for Clunkers!
All this makes one wonder how many cars are remaining and what condition they're in. I suspect that well-maintained, unmodified examples must be getting fewer.
BTW
I saw your early pictures. Good that you 'saved' that car and it will have a new lease on life.

and rivcal, its nice that you saved a 500E and for that I'll tip my hat off to you. but if it were my $ i would've restored it to original spec, dropped some Monoblocks on it and upgraded small things like exhaust and brakes...all things replaceable with original parts to maintain value. And if I wanted a fast 1/4 car I would've just modded a 400E. but again to each his own.

With my commenting, this is where I come from. I can't help but let it get to me thinking how many 500Es are remaining in this country unmolested and original and as time goes they'll slowly disappear. Thats why I fight to preserve them! It bothers me because 500Es will never exist again and you can't go back in time! Unless someone decides to build them like someone does with DeLorean.

Chill. I'm just teasing you. It's just that you say, "I fight to preserve them!" yet the biggest contribution you can do (which you haven't done so for whatever reasons), on your part to "preserve them," is to buy one (or two) - just like what Justin is doing...So what if he's adding NOS - there's another 500E in decent condition just a few miles from here - and they'll still be around years later because there's guys like him who basically care enough about the car to restore them - and then some.
So relax and ease up on the drama, there will still be a nice 500e waiting for you.

Update! The individual putting these kits together (Steve from Bergwerks) has offered to honor the group-buy pricing with only 3 kits instead of 5. The only stipulation is that there is now a deadline of December 1st. I know that it is a lot to ask of you all to step forward with so much money on such short notice, but this is likely to be out last chance to jump on such an opportunity. Due to the rising cost of certain components I the kit, Steve will never be offering them at this price again. He has stated that the price is likely to go up to over $2500. Since I don't see many people being willing to sheep out that kind of money, it is probably that they will cease to exist entirely.
