Do You Know The Answer? W-124 1986 300e
I have just purchased a 1986 Mercedes 300e W124 3.0 liter with 100k miles and I've recently encountered a problem - when i press the gas pedal to speed up quickly (i.e. on an on-ramp to a highway), the car delays before "accelerating". The acceleration itself is very jerky, and the only way i can fix it is by taking my foot off the gas, and accelerating slowly. It only seems to struggle when I hit the gas hard. I was thinking about getting the carburetor professionally cleaned..what do you think?? please help!!!!

epowers is half correct, fuel injection really means mechanical fuel injection. Also known as CIS (constant injection stream) or K/KE-Jetronic. Has this problem slowly become obvious or suddenly out of the blue?
ECU is behind the battery.

Welcome
Don't title your questions so vaguely. Please state the problem in the title in order to facilitate searching.

In order to eliminate simple things its best to establish a baseline tune up; new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel filter, air filter.
I suspect your wires or cap may be at fault, but we will never know unless that stuff is changed/ recently installed.
