Cigarrete Lighter replacement

1994 E320

Cigarrete Lighter replacement

The Cigarrete lighter on my 1994 e320 does not work with my cellular phone charger. I checked the voltaje and I get the 12V, but right in the center where the charger makes contact I don´t get any voltage, I want to replace the socket with a newer one, but don´t know how to remove the ashtray so I can replace the socket.

Once the metal tray is removed, there are two phillips screws in the back.

Thanks, I have seen the two screws, and have already removed them, but something else seems to be holding the piece, I don´t want to break anything. I will post pictures later.

You have to remove the lower console wood. There should be a screw under the arm-rest area. Take that off and then take that out. The ashtray will come out easily now.

You need to pry up the carpet (its just a small rectangle piece) to be able to see the screw to remove the lower console wood. From there lift up (I usually remove the child safety button or it will FLY off and can be possibly lost because its so small) and it will come out easy.

I never found mine after it flew off...I saw it fly and looked forever for it. Gone.

Lucky I found one at the junkyard the following week. Usually the consoles are molested fast.

Thanks for your response, I am not looking for a special lighter, just one socket that will power my cellphone charger. I get the 12VDC that power the lighter, but not on the center of the socket where the charger´s positive prong touches. I just want to change ir to any standard socket that will give me 12VDC in the middle.
What I sitll don´t know how to remove, is the case under the arm rest, the one that can be locked with the key.
any ideas?
