H&R's installed today

Installed H&R lowering springs in my 420 today. Riding on stock shocks But Bilstein sports are on there way. How much do u think the Bilsteins will bring it up? Ideally i would like it to be about a half inch higher in the rear but idk if that gunna happen

What do you guys think??

Depends on the day
New shocks will definitely bring the rear up a bit. Otherwise, the rest of the car and lowering suit well.

Its really an easy job if you have the mercedes spring compressor tool. I had the job 100% done in about 2 hours. The rear ones were a little more time consuming. Here is what the tool looks like http://www.performanceproducts4benz....l_P58-018X.jpg

If you have any other questions I could definitely point u in the right direction.

Spring pads

I had a similar issue when I installed the Eibach ProKit springs. I ended up going back under the car and increasing the size of the pads in the rear. I have 1-bump front and 3-bump rear. I hated that sagging look with it too low in the rear. To me it made it look like an old broken down Benz, rather than a nicely lowered sporty sedan. The very low rear also causes way too much negative camber.

I thought the H&R tended to lower the front more than the back. I guess it is different for every car. What spring pads did you use?

Do you own a spring compressor or rent? Source? Sure beats having to risk your life doing the job without one, a job I am so familliar with....

Looks good!!!! ksing44 is right, if you are still unhappy with the front and rear heights you can tweak it with different thickness bump pads to get it nearly perfect. Good thing is they are pretty cheap at the dealership.

thanks for the comments. Im currently running stock bumps front and rear. I have bilstein sports on the way for the rear which i hope will bring up the rear to where it should be. If i need to i will get some new bumps for it. The front i am happy with but the rear rubs with someone sitting in the back seat. It sits wayyy to close to the tire even without anyone in the back.

As for the spring compressor, i use the one we have at my shop. I work at a small mercedes shop on the cape. If you feel like makin a trip out to the cape anytime soon im sure you could borrow it. Also, appatula, i think i read somewhere that u had camber adjusters? If so i may interested in buying them off you. Let me know

Thanks man! I actually traveled yearly to Hyannis as my girlfriend has relatives up there but they recently sold the cape. Bumpstop adjustment should solve your issues, the sports will also give you some height, my HD's did. I do have rear Benzboy camber adjusters, they are litteraly new, less than 200miles on them.

Maybe it was the angle but that first picture taken from the front, it appeared the rear was way lower in proportion to the front any reason why? And why do you think the Billy sports will raise it up a bit - because the OE's are shot and you're thinking new struts and shocks will 'lift' it up a little? It might but I'm thinking there wont be that much of a difference. Looks good though - I love the beefy back end lowered (although it's too much right now) good on for attempting this job, it freaks a lot of people out but it's really worth it if you like that look.

The reason it appears to be that way even more in that picture is because my driveway is a tiny bit uphill. The bilsteins sports are stiffer than the stock shocks so they can only improve the rear end sag which is the reason why i bought them. There is always little tweaks that need to be made after going lower but ill get it right eventually.

I've installed springs before but I'd like to know the different "bump" sizes and part numbers. It seems you'll have to first install the springs, let them settle and determine if you need to later adjust the height by installing different bumps if necessary...

So you must get the Mercedes specific spring compressor for the job?

To be honest with u i would like to know the same thing as far as the spring bumps cuz im not sure either But you are correct about adjusting the height after installing the springs. Thats what im doing anyway. I have already put in the rear bilstein sports and i ordered the front ones today so those will be installed either tomorrow or friday.

well i was going to try to hold off on the fronts for a while and just ride on the stock shocks for as long as i could. But after experiencing the ride quality of the bilsteins in the rear, the fronts were necessary

Anybody got a good source for the cheapest H&R? I'm ready to purchase mine. Ebay looks to be ~$270 /w shipping. Anybody cheaper than this?

I'm going to be running very similar to you except I have Bilstein comforts in front and Bilstein sports in rear (got sports for $8 at junkyard....so not bothered with matching it now lol). My tires are 205 55 16.

That's about as low as I've found at least for the wagon. I got mine from propartsusa on eBay. I didn't catch that they charged CA tax so you may want to look out of state...

ChrisDPham found the h&r's on ebay and sent the link over to me and I just grabbed them... i think it came out to 265 or something.

But anyway, my 215's rub in the front, not too bad but definitely something I want to take care of. Will post pics tomorrow.

heres a couple pics of how it sits
