95 E320 wagon
is 2800 rpm's at 70 mph normal??

We think there may be a transmission problem with our 95 e320 wagon. It slips a little in R and My husband thinks the rpm's at highway speed are a little high.

Totally normal. My 94 e320 is at the same RPM range. The M104's are nice engines but the little buggers are pretty high strung and the RPM's stay up there pretty high. You can still get around 27-29 mpg at 80 or 85 mph though if you hold it steady.

The slipping in reverse can indicate an impending failure....so be prepared for a rebuild in the near future.

Highway RPM is normal, nothing to worry about.
