'94 E500 wheel and general questions???

I'm considering buying a '94 E500 I've found, the problem is that it has the OEM wheels and they have been chromed. I hate chrome wheels. So what are the stock wheel sizes and offsets on the E500 and are there any other models that share the same wheel (if I want to stay OEM not chrome). What other sizes/offsets with fit this car in the aftermarket world??? I would consider doing a traditional AMG monblock one piece (similar to the stock wheel on the CLK55 I used to own).

What are some of the problem areas with this car??? This one is close to perfect 60K mile car with all the books and records. It's nicer then the 40K mile car I looked at last year. Would it make an OK daily driver (10K/year) for a couple of years???

The stock wheel for a 500E is an 8 x 16 8-hole wheel like the R129 SL, et 34, painted silver. One could get those stock wheels in chrome thru the dealer.

E500 Ltds came with the MB EvoII polished rims at 8.25 x 17 (what I run and can get cheap). Basically, any rim that fits a R129 SL will fit the 500Es.

Problems are few but can be costly...leaky P/S pumps, N2 cells go bad on SLS, ASR computer problems can arise, dash fan blowers go at 100K miles. Wiring harnesses dry up and cause electrical problems, Bowden cables go and are costly, radiators can be a problem and should be replaced, Timing chain should be done by 120K miles. BUT, really no worse of a maintainer than any other MB W124 model though, actually quite solid and not too hard to work on yourself.

I could go on...e-mail if you want more poop on them.

Sorry...daily driver? Sure, its fine for that. 15 mpg in town maybe 18-20 on the highway. I drive 10K a year with mine but its not a daily driver...too nice for that IMO.

Right on !!...if I was lucky enough to have 2 500Es...I'd drive one every day too.

Buy one...you won't be disappointed !!

Jim,

Do you have any pics of the ltd wheel??? How much is cheap??? That sounds like something I would be interested in getting if I decide to buy this car.

About the daily driver part: This car would be my daily driver and it would replace the truck that currently fills the role. Since the truck gets about 12mpg, any improvement will be fine with me. My garage queen is an '01 M3 and I have a buyer who is coming down to pick it up at the end of next week, it will be replaced by an '02 or 03 M5 or '01 996TT.

MBE 500, Toyota Celica x2, Yamaha R1,
If you don´t like the chromed rims you can always replase them vith a set of AEZ Radon rims. 10 spoke, 8,5X18 looks realy good on these car. Don´t know the price of these.

Can send you a picture if you would like to see them on a 500.
