HID question for those with HIDs

I got those projector kits of ebay (the same one piece style that berti has), and I added HIDs.

No problems so far, the only thing is that I hear one of the 2 ballast buzz (it was mainly the passenger, but the last time I checked it was the driver side one). Is this normal? I can only hear one buzzing at a time.

My mechanic told me that perhaps the wiring harness for your car might not be able to handle the extra current from HIDs. Is this true?

Did any of you have to upgrade any of the wiring when you went to HIDs? I hope it is fine as is. I don't want things to melt and all of the sudden have no lights on the freeway.

mine make a slight 'weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee' sound too...
I believe HID's draw less power than regular bulbs, so you should be okay. mine have been doing it for quite a while now... freaked me out at first, but with the hood closed and the car on, the sound disappears...

mine too, it is a weeee buzzing kind of noise. Like you, I only hear it if I have the engine off, and lights on, with the hood open.

Anyone else with HIDs, no wiring problems with keeping the stock wiring - with heat etc?

ZedStyle, how long have you had your HIDs on your car?
thanks !!!

I had H6 35W Bi-xenons in my 87 190D for about 2 years with no problems, then I switched to euros, put in 35W H4 6000K bi-xenons and 55W H3 6000ks in my fogs.

I have HIDs in all my cars, never one failure.

the wheeeeeeee sound is perfectly normal when you turn them on, but once the bulbs are hot, it should go away.

thanks good to know that the stock wiring can handle that load.

Even after the lights are on for a while (20 minutes), when I shut the car off, and open the hood, with the lights still on, I can hear that wheeee sound. One time it was the passenger ballast, the last time it was the driver side ballast.

Do you think I have a problem, should I worry about it?

stock bulbs draw 55W 12V
HIDs draw 35, you can special order 55Ws from over seas, but they arent DOT legal.

I wouldn't worry about it until you start seeing flickering, etc. (may not be the highest quality HID kit out there though)
