Has anybody compared the radiators of the 300e's and 400e/500e's? Wanting to know if I can fit the bigger radiator in there... most likely gotta use the mercedes radiator and the heads gasket did a good job filling my coolant system with motor oil.........just trying to get myself together on this.

Sup out there, bringing this thread back, a lot has happened over the last two years with a new kid, job situation, and moved twice but still the swap is alive. Over thee years I've been slowly buying parts to upgrade the motor while its not inside of an engine bay. In the garage now is a '87 5.0 motor all stock and only 5k miles on it. The upgrades or parts I have sitting on the side are Trick Flow intake manifold set, trick flow valve covers, (for emission reasons I don't want the obvious look of a ford engine if I can help it.) 1.7 crane cobra roller rockers, mac underdrive pulley set, Mac equal length headers, but the most important upgrade I gotten are gt40 ford explorer heads with eternal EGR. In the basement right now I'm porting and polishing these heads and also gasket matching the openings. Oh if you must know I'm just gonna stick with the stock cam and will convert to a front sump oil pan. Not sure if I should go with speed density or a MAF setup for the engine management. Oh I finally have a complete bodykit setup so things are shaping up.

For gods sake, put a German engine in a German car.

The joy of driving comes from driving a car at it's limits, not ruining it with Chevy engineering. Or, just buy a Corvette.

My two euro's..

So we gotta hater over here, see I'm a diesel technician a type of mechanic and I see a car as just a shell, the one thing that really wows me are the engines in them. I love my car, the styling, the ride, and features are all very nice and hey its a car that's all paid off too! It's the drivetrain that bores me and also that needs to be replaced anyways, bad transmission and I'm assuming its the head gasket since theres oil in my coolant resevior. So why not step up the power while I'm at it? It bores me to not be able to do much with the drivetrain as it is. I hear what you all are saying about the turbo thing but I also have a paxton supercharger setup in my explorer that is interchangable to fit a 5.0 mustang engine. Thats almost 500rwhp possibly but I'm not even gonna go to that extreme. I know the car can handle this engine N/A. Oh and also found out the 5.0 engine setup is like almost 200 pounds lighter than the m103 setup......no need for suspension upgrades. Had my CE for 7 years now so I have had my fair share of dealing with it.

Hey man ignore people telling you what to do with your own car. Better than 90% of the w124s I see on the road being driven into the ground. I, for one, can't wait to see someone pull off a swap like this.

Push the envelope man!

Long over due but life is good, I got back to of and got my money back in good position to per sue this. The 5.0 over I been building looks live it'll hit over 500hp at the crank. I do have questions for some of the gurus here. I'm currently pullng the motor out and noticed to fuel lines and wonder do our m103 have a return style fuel setup already? If so that will make things so much easier. Another thing do the 500e's use the same style drive line as the 300e's? The rubber bushing damper thing on the drive line I wonder if I can get a custom one made if possible or use a 500e one if possible. Another ? ?? How does our fuel economy gauge work? Is it a wideband setup or something built in??? I also still want to use the coolant temp and oil pressure gauge on the dash just in case' even though I can read the coolant temp on my tablet via Bluetooth and megasquirt what do I have to do to have my dash power up for these guages since I will no longer be using the m103 ecu setup? I found a maker for the ford 5.0 mustang engine that makes a harness where I only have to plug up 3 wires to start and run the engine, power ignition and ground and it will control the engine do the sensors and fuses and even power the fuel pump......made by rjm injection. Please help with advise if you can. To run a 5.0 fuel injection motor you must have return style fuel setup. Pictures to come soon,. I've done a lot of research on corral so far on this.......

Only problem with his builds are that they are not built for reliability and longevity.

Rbycc did you alter your driveline any? I found out that 500e's and 400e's don't even have driveline dampers. You guys think bolting it straight up minus the damper will be just fine??? Any advice? I'd hate to take this to another Benz forum........

Not sure what you mean by "driveline dampers".
All 124's including the V8's use a front and rear flex disk.
The 124's typically are six bolt where the 129's are eight bolt.

I'm running the stock drive shaft with new flex disks...
Stock stuff can handle about 400HP, especially with the auto transmission.
Manual trans with an engine making power tends to break stuff

Might be, I have not followed his build like that. I just know he has been turbofeeding his 103 engine for quite a few years now, gradually bigger turbo's and higher effects. The last video I saw from him he had more than 800hp in that thing, and his automatic transmission looks like it is handling the power also..

He might have swapped transmissions along the way without my knowledge offcourse..

Rbycc that's exact what I was talking about. I'll probly buy a new flex disk and I didn't know they can take that much HP. I'll be running automatic so I should be fine. I'll have a drive line shop weld a front part of a mustang driveline to my stock drive line then. Im so happy to see our cars have fuel return line. This will save me from a lot of trouble that I really didn't want
