87 300D IGNITION/STARTER PROBLEM IS THE W124 STARTERS ALL THE SAME?

87 300D IGNITION/STARTER PROBLEM IS THE W124 STARTERS ALL THE SAME?
My 300D will not start, it will not even try to turn over. Yet when I turn the key the dash lights still come on, there is nothing in the ignition. Key just turns with no resistance. I have a good battery, I have checked my fuses and relays. Does anyone have any possible idea if this sounds like the car needs a starter. My starter was fine and out of no where nothing. One more thing, If I go to buy a starter do all w124 models take the same starter. If anyone knows anything, It would be greatly appreciated.
