Intermittent ABS light issue? odd....

Intermittent ABS light issue? odd....
Hey there. Well I was driving to my MB mechanic yesterday, from school, and all of a sudden my ABS light came on. 
No idea why? I didn't even bother asking my mechanic because I wasn't going there for that reason. We just picked up a '77 450sl and wanted him to look at it. Besides, when I got to the mechanic, the ABS light went off. (Of course....why does that always happen?) 
So now, it comes on and stays on when I start the car, but not EVERY time I start the car...just sometimes. I checked to see if my cruise control was working and it was. There's no brake shudder or anything. Everything else is normal. 
So I searched this forum for an answer and didn't really find one that relates other than my ABS sensors MIGHT be loose or going bad. I still have the stock 15" rims, my pads are fine and I put new pad wear sensors on a few thousand miles ago.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
