260e emission fail

Hey, im trying to get my 89 260e to pass emissions so far i have done is, cap, rotor, plugs, thermostat, oil change and i just ordered a 02 sensor. Just yesterday i took it deq, and it failed at idle is was at 380, and when i had it revved at 2500 it was at 280. I need to have my Micro Carbons at 220 at idle, and at rev. Does any one have tricks of the trade that will help me pass emission, any help would be very appreciated thanks

By micro carbons, I am assuming you are referring to Hydrocarbons?? Have you checked the lambda?? Did any other exhaust gas fail...if so by how much?

It is basically the air fuel ratio, also known as, on/off ratio. It can be checked with a lambda meter.

Just replace the O2 sensor and the temp sensor. About the cat? go to your local animal shelter.

Lambda is adjustable...

You will also be able to see if the O2 sensor is working.

Naw, I never change the cat on my 86 and it passed. I always ran a o2 sensor from a 1990 mustang 5.0 with manual transmission. Another trick was to put 1/4 tank of premium fuel and add two bottles of iso-heet. Make sure you drive the car 30 min before you do the smog test and dont let the cat cool down. My w203 and my w202 pass smog without breaking a sweat now. I just feel lame not working on my cars anymore since they don't really need anything other than an oil change.

ha ha ok so i replace the o2 sensor, readings are a lot better, 308 at idle and 245 revved. I know what talking about now, the lamda, my girlfriends dad happenss to have one he adjusted it awhile back, but that was with the old o2 sensor he said it was reading slow at idle and adjusted it but it was just giving us bad readings, im gonna have him adjust it again at his shop and hopefully that will do the trick if not gonna get me some of the iso heet, thanks for the help guys, very much appreciated
