Smile Newbie - 300CE

Hi All,

Just bought myself a 300Ce off ebay for the princely sum of £400 and have just started to get it in shape. Its taxed and tested and is resplendent in Met Grey. List of jobs so far has been:-
Remove 'slough edition' chrome arches
Remove 18" CLS wheels and replace with 15" 8 Hole Mercedes alloys
Full service inc oil, filter, air filter, plugs, coolant etc
Replace convenience relay with later type
New Pads and Discs
Refurb - Grille (new slats and Merc symbol), wiper arm, headlight wipers
Facelift side indicators (to match front)

To do list:-
Replace O/S door seal and mirror
Minor bodywork (rear arch and N/S front)
Facelift rear boot panel and lights to be added
Smaller steering wheel
Keep eyes open for 16" 8 Hole alloys R129 style
Central locking (not working)

Just the front grille to replace and put the rear seats and some carpet back in. The last owner used the car as an ashtray/bin so I hjave spent hours cleaning the interior out but I am nearly there!!

So please help me with any advice on other areas to check or good sensible upgrades that you guys have on your cars.

Oh and remember - its good to tinker!

great job! you might want to check the shocks/struts and inspect all the bushings under the car. Have you changed the transmission fluid and filter? When I bought my 300ce, I also changed the power steering and brake fluids.

I was just going to top up the ATF for the gearbox but please let me know if I should be changing the filter and draining and refilling all the oil. All the bushing and suspension parts that I can see are fine and there are no creaks or rattles when driving so fingers crossed everything is OK. Just need to source a stereo now...

Mb recommends to change atf and filter every 30,000 miles or every year. If you don't know the vehicles history, then i suggest you go to mb dealer and buy an atf filter kit and change the oil.
