88' 300 E Transmission fluid leak

Ok im preparing to do a head gasket repair as well as a couple other things...

However, all of a sudden my transmission fluid has started leaking on the driveway the past two weeks. The car hasn't been driven in about a month or so.

I don't know whats going on with it other than it should be ok(transmission) mechanically only its just leaking out of the blue.

Im guessing and hoping it just needs a seal or something. What would be a good tune up for it?

Just pray its not the pump seal!! (what I am doing right now if you've seen my 722.3 repair thread)
Clean the area, retighten pan drain plug and all pan bolts. The pump seal will leak right at the point where the back of the engine and transmission meet, anything further back will be the pan leaking.

Ok yeah I saw that its an awesome thread. But your car is a "TE"? I thought that may have been different but you have the same type flex disc and parts as my car. I hope its the pan and not what you said. But, I'll make the repair If I have to. Its hard to tell where the leak is coming from but I put a cardboard box down earlier and the drip is towards the front of the car.

So you mean to clean that specific area. Then retighten everything let it run and then look for the leak?

OK will do. So what should I use to clean with im thinking Varsol?

In Summer 04' the car had a leaking transmission that time as well. The repairs were $770 which were done by an indie mechanic. Work done included: reseal front pump, replace hub lip seal, replace rear main seal and service transmission.

Any of that sound familiar? I don't know much about transmissions but it sounds like the same things you did or are doing.

If you have ATF way up at the front of the car it may be the trans cooler lines going into the radiator. I had mine replaces and the top one wasn't quite tightened down enough for the first day or so and it dripped right down the side of the radiator.

That was a VERY easy fix.

Thanks panther and ps2cho...

My local MB club president said it might just be from the recent cold weather we had a month ago...so hopefully that's it since its already had all the seals redone...
