Small Ignition issue...where to start?

Okay, so I'm starting to get an issue that may seem very common for some here, so I'm open for suggestions as a starting point. Here is the issue.....

"On cold starts" try 1 = Quick turnover engine starts right away! then dies after about 1 second

Try 2 = turning for about 2-3 seconds and i hear the engine catching but its almost like it isnt enough to actually start.

Try 3 if lucky will start, sometimes i'll give a bit of gas to help im sure this isnt really helping as try 4 usually works just fine, and gets me going on the road.

Once car is warmed up, i can turn off and start like its brand new!

I don't think its the cold start valve otherwise why would it turn on so nicely during try 1, of course only lasting 1 second...lol so where is a good starting point?
