Computer in front of gear lever?
I've seen pictures of some 124s (E36 and E500 to be precise) which had a computer looking thing in front of the gear lever? It had some buttons and a screen.

Can someone enlighten me as to what it is?

Part of the optional trip computer. Believe it was only available in Germany.

I've got a German market 300TE24v with a 5spd manual with this computer fitted.
Keypad in the centre console.

Wow that looks pretty weird.
But the keypad I was talking about is between the ashtray and the gear lever.

I've never seen dials like that before.
What kind of details does it show?

What you could've spotted is the timer programe unit for a heater unit.

I'll look for a pic.

Not my picture, but this is where I originally saw it. Now that I see it, I guess it is a timer for the heated front seats?

That is the control unit for an Eberspacher type cabin heater.
