Need to buy Idle Computer for 95 E40
Took my car into the shop and they told me the idle computer is shot.
Couple questions:
Will the comp out of an e320 work since the e420 is quite a bit rarer?
Any other concerns about swapping a used computer in?
Where's a good place to find used stuff? I have plenty of sources for my BMW but don't have any for MB parts.

Swapping the E320 computer into a E420 wont work since the E320 is a 6 cylinder engine and the parameters of the computers are different.
Swapping a used part from the same type of engine may work well, but also there slight changes in the Software are common and you need to know compatability of the SW issues.
By the way what are you describing as the idle computer? Is it just the motor management computer? How did you find out about that the comp. is shot?? Did the driving, idle or performance change?

I figured the other cars probably wouldn't work.
The mechanic diagnosed a check engine light as coming from the "idle computer" (also said second one on the left). I had some issues with power/a relay that vanished and then turned into the check engine light.
However, after him telling me there was nothing he could do except replace the computer, I took the car home and all symptoms are gone. Of course I know they will reappear when my wife is driving at the most inconvenient time.
