hard thump into reverse
I have this 88 300 which in forward is nice and docile shifting through the gears etc but if you put it in reverse it bumps the car noticeably after shifting into reverse. Since the car operates flawlessly when driving in forward or reverse I am inclined to believe I have some sort of bushing or isolator that is beat/broken causing the transmittal of that thump into the car upon putting it into reverse and than back into forward slightly. Any ideas?

ok was checking it out and the flex discs are great but got to the rear end and there are two bushings with large hex bolts in them that bolt the diff to the subframe in the rear. Half of the bushings at the bottom are missing completely. At rest the bolts are up top in the rubber but I imagine in reverse these shift down and bang right into the subframe. Are these hard to replace?
Good question. So far, the only rear suspension work I've done is to replace a broken sway bar link. That was easy. Looks like there are four diff mounts. Two at the front, and the wo at the rear. They don't seem complicated and the parts aren't expensive. Hopefully they're not too bad to replace. Maybe someone who's done it will chime in.

This may be what is needed to make this job less painful.
