Its a real AMG, the engine just isn't modified, it has the amg body, spoiler,exhaust, and a special amg suspension. Now the quirky thing is that the option sheets list the interior and steering wheel as a sportline. This car may prove the collaboration with amg as the sportline suspension. People are still doubting the amg authenticity, but I have the spec sheet for the car and all those things I listed are on it.
There was an entire thread written questioning its authenticity.

shadow will you join my side against the doubter. Have you seen the spec sheet? Its a shame that I'm selling the vehicle it is so nice. It might be the precursor to the sportline or atleast the suspension part where everyone was wondering if AMG helped with the suspension of the sportline.

I am almost 100% sure this car was modified in factory by AMG, but more or less cosmetic (excluding exhaust). This still classifies it as an AMG though.

Thats what the people from germany said and also the UK. This car was one of those ordered car, and then the guy would travel to the plant in germany, take the tour and then drive off the factory line with his new car. Thats what they told me.

After a year plus of ownership, pics...
Specifics: 1994 E320 all orginial, 78k miles, bought from World Wide Motors in Indianapolis in Feb. 06. They had sold it as a certified used car in 1999 and had done all work on it since. Love the car more and more every day. Thinking of moving to Monoblocks when the tires wear out.
