300E with 300,000 Miles... Should I run?

I want one, not as an everyday car, but I've just wanted one for a really long time and I don't have much money to spend on it. I found a 1991 300E with 300,000 miles. If I can get it for around $500, is it worth it? The owner says it shifts hard, but it runs strong.

Do a bit of checking around and you will find decent ones for not much more, or with less miles and simple problems.

A hard shifting transmission is not a good sign and will triple+ your purchase price in cost.
It is reaching the end of it's life.
IMO

I bid $510 on eBay, the winning bid was $520. Lol.

I'm gonna start looking for one. I have the bug. Question though (ignore my ignorance) are the coupes a lot more expensive than the sedans? The 300CE.

Thanks

They are more expensive, but not by much.
Well double the price. If a sedan goes for $2k, the CE might be $4k...but not always.
I got mine for $1,600. Runs great, excellent interior, needed shocks and minor other things. 150k miles.
The cheaper it is, the more it will cost in the long run.
Good luck with your search.

P.S. no ignorance issues. Ask away!

^ it is. And it is repeated on these boards all the time, and in many of our experiences, prior to reading it.
