Sunroof motor
It's one of four things..
1) Metal clip inside the sunroof is broken
2) Steel cable has stripped
3) Electric motor gears have sheered
4) All of the above! (more likely if you keep pressing the button!)
Take the sunroof trim off inside the car. You'll be able to see the clip attached to the cable. Remove the trim from the boot (trunk) on the electric aerial side. This is where the motor is. From here you can remove the cable and the motor.
Good luck
Got another sunroof question for you....My sunroof goes up and down, no problem...also opens (moonroof) w/o a problem. I can close it 85% of the way, but it can't make the last 15% (3-4 inches). I can close it by pulling the rest of the way. Any ideas.....
What happens when it reaches the point where it stops?
Does the motor stall or is the motor still working (and making a clicking sound)?
Is the wind deflector adjusted correctly?
I'm no expert it's just that my cable stripped once so I had to take it apart.
I posted this reply to someone else who had a similar problem:-

I have the problem of opening the sliding/lifting roof. I can not operate it by cranking the emergency crank so I can not remove the headlining/ceiling cover to access the metal clip to extract the cable.
I hear the motor turning on switching so the problems according to your definition will be 1) and 2). Would you say so? If so, what does it mean "Remove the trim from the boot (trunk) on electric areal side.? Could you kindly explain me ? Thank you so much.
