I looked at this vehicle for sale at SFBenz. VIN is WDBEA36E6RC003051. My mechanic noted that it has a leaking evaporator (you can smell the freon in the cabin). The Dealer is selling it "as is", but the ad with the attached carfax indicates that the AC was checked. Replacing the evaporator is a major item. The dealer's own service department quotes $5,200, so buyer beware!

W124s with leaking evaps are pretty commonplace. We know it's a huge job to replace. That VIN would indicate a 500E if my sleepy eyes are not deceiving me. How was the rest of the car? Is it fairly priced for it's condition? I, for one, would not exclude a well priced, otherwise good looking 500E from my car search just for a bad evap. Unless you're trying to ward people off to drive the price down for yourself, that is.

Hm thats too bad, looks like it in a great condition as far as the interior and exterior go. But $15,975 is a little much for a car thats going to need $5,000 in repairs right away. It doesn't have most of the common problems W124s have though. The roof isn't sagging down in the back, the map pockets arn't coming apart, and 89K miles is nothing at all for a W124.

But in the end that would come out to $21,000. I'm not always on the lookout for a 500E because i can't afford one, but im guessing thats a little high for a 500e.
That thing really does look pretty damned new though, from the pictures on the site i can't see ANY dents, scratches, etc. Seats seem to be in great condition.

Here's a nice one for $13,900 (bottom link). Says it has books and records. Seems to be a fair price to me assuming it doesnt have any internal engine problems. Condition doesn't seem QUITE as good as the other one, but thats because it has 129,000 miles, still nothing to a W124

Neither of these looks like the buys I've seen on here, although the AC is not a $5k job, maybe half that and I like 89K miles. The market has been far more buyer friendly than this for over a year...NEVER imo bother with dealers. They will waste your time in so many ways...and in the end, they need a few thousand more than you could buy the same car for.

This car is listed by a long-time, knowledgeable, respected 500E enthusiast on the 500espot and 500 ecstasy forums.

I have no affiliation with this sale, but I can vouch for the seller as I just purchased a set of wheels from him. A perfect transaction.

According to what he has listed, this should be a top notch car, obsessively well maintained. All wear items replaced or properly upgraded.

I agree, this is a car I would look at LONG before spending 10 minutes of my time talking to a dealer.
