Stereo Install help (w124 260e)

Hello all!
So about two years ago I got my stereo stolen from my car. I have been driving with out ever since because I can not get it to work. When they stole the stereo, they just ripped all the wires out.. I had to rewire the speakers in the back; bypassing the fadder and what not.. My two questions are: When my car is off, keys out of the ignition, the stereo remains on... What is the proper way to wire the stereo?? The configuration I have currently is the only way the stereo will power on.. My second question: With the stereo powered on, the speakers will not sound... What could be causing this? When I plug the connecter to the back of the stereo, I hear the speakers make a sound.. That is all the information I have. If someone, ANYONE, can help, PLEASE DO! I am tired of singing to myself while driving; I'm not that good.. :p
Thanx in advance!!!!
-Matt

The stereo, any stereo has 2 sources of 12v+ going to it.
One is from the ignition, that is the one that actually powers on your stereo and plays stuff, the other is a constant from the battery which is also refered to as a keep alive memory. This is what keeps the presets and clock etc. memorized.
If you remove the key and the stereo remains on, check to see if you have the constant 12v where the ignition 12v should be.
