Yo Zach,
Go buy the car or one like it. It's gonna be a great way to connect with folks on the forum once you have actual things to worry about. Life is way to fricking short to deny your desires whether you are rich or poor. It's not for me to decide whether what keeps you happy is the partnership you will have with keeping a really cool and well engineered car safely on the road or if you lease a 2012 Jetta. You will feel alive every mile you clock on the Merc. You will happily work harder to get those new tires, upgrade the brakes or repair the climate control. Because the gift of resorting, restoring and investing in a well made car is pride of ownership.
You will condemn me later when all doesn't go as planned, but you are young. You can afford to take some risks, and maybe fail. But fail, Zac. Fail and fail often. Big or small failure is the only path to success.
I love my little 300 Cab. its not fast. Its not even working correctly. Yet But there is a promise of perfection. A bunch of things that can be replaced and it all will work like it should again. It's an MB--engineered to perform simple things in an extraordinary way. Participate in that forever, or just give it a try for a while. It won't kill you.
Sometimes us old farts forget what it is like to make irrational and emotional decisions. You'll be one of us soon enough, just don't be one now.
Cheers,
Bob

Hey Zach,
I have been in a similiar boat as you. I first wanted a sl500 as my first car. There was no way I could afford insurance, maintenance, or other things such as gas. I chose to purchase a much cheaper 300ce as my own car. I paid $2000 cash for the car. Another $2000 later it is not perfect but much better.
A 500e may not be the car for you. The car itself will be very expensivce to insure. I do not know if you pay your own insurance but, if you do you may want to consider a second job.
As you probably know, Mercedes are expensive period. I do not personally know from experience as I have only takin my cars to my garage. This past weekend when I went with my Dad to pick up his new Audi. I decided to stop into the Mercedes dealer accross the street and labor itself was around $92 a hour.
As others have said look for a different lower horsepower car. I suggest something tuneable. As someone else stated a japper. They are by no means a Mercedes but very nice cars and quick.
Due to your demographics a 500e is going to an expensive car.
You will due what you want with your money but, a 500e may be a little bit out of your ball park.
