1987 AMG 3.2 FULL RESTORATION
as many of you know i wanted to TURBO my AMG, but when it all boils down i decided to take a diffrent path and restore it completly.
Since the TURBO idea i have found an orignal AMG steering wheel from Germany(with NO air bag) and have installed it.
as well as OEM BOSCH euro headlights.
BUT.....
I currently have the Baby in the upholstry shop. i am having all the seats re leathered with the AMG logo embroiderd in the shoulder rest in the front and rear. I also will be replacing the carpet as well. BUT what makes this so special is that i am changing the interior color from GREY to BLACK. everything from the door pannels to headliner and console. EVERYTHING.
The project is set to be complete by next week so i will post pictures as soon as i get it back.

Wow. Can't wait to see how it turns out.
A full restore is also the route I'd love to go with my w124. That will definitely have to wait till after college though. And will probably start as an exterior only restoration at first.
Be sure to keep us updated though. I love threads like this.

A full resoration on a 300E isn't worth it at all IMO. You can find pristine examples of W124's for less money than it would cost to restore.
A 500E or a hammer is a different story, though.

I'd do a restore on a 5 speed 3.2 AMG but the stock 300...like Zorro says, plenty of nice examples are out there for scratch compared to the cost of a restore.

Zorro is giving a correct response to "Kaputt' as it is easier and less expensive to buy a pristine 300E then to restore one.
However the OP's original unmodifed 300E AMG 3.2- 5 speed is worthy of restoration as is any pre merger AMG.
Still won't appeal to anyone who doesn't know the value of the pre merger builds

I want to keep my car because of sentimental value though. It was my first car, and I love the 300e. I really think it would be cool to say 20 years from now that I still owned the car I drove as a 17 year old.
The restoration is something I want to do in the future, so who knows, that could end up being 5-10 years from now, depending on how a job situation works out after school.
Perhaps that still doesn't make sense to some, but ever since meeting a guy at a local car show who still had his, fully restored, 1960's era Volvo 122 S that he got as a freshman in college, this has been something I have wanted to do.
Plus it's not like my 300e is in beater condition. She sits in the garage most of the time, gets washed nearly weekly, and now that I have a Honda Accord, shes not piling up the mileage either.
To each their own I guess.

The condition of your car matters- these cars usually do not need full restoration just good upkeep.
Maybe yours will in a decade, and really restoration = the cost of a low end car,
so they are just toys and as you say...
