C124 AMG WIDEBODY REPLICA BUILD

After eighteen months on the build, the pre paint assembly almost complete..
Build is all steel ( except aero kit ) and accurately patterned from the only known NOS C124 widebody kit

That looks very nice, Ed. What does NOS stand for?

Oh, and nice tyres in the back.

NOS = "New Old Stock"..
Indicates an old/discontinued/obsolete part that has not been used and is still in "new" unused condition.

Depends on the day
this is going to be phenomenal in red.

wouldn't it be wise to paint with body components OFF? or is this a mock up before stripping the thing?

Basically a trial/test assembly to fit and adjust the parts.
Will drive it for a bit as I need to renew the registration at DMV...
Driving will show any interferences with the wheels/suspension...
Recaro interior will be installed, a few performance mods/tweaks and it will be disassembled painted, color sanded then reassembled

wicked stuff ed. From the primer, it looks like you worked all the way up to the roofline. Is that correct?

WHAT a show stopper, Ed.

This has GOT to be the most valuable c124 NOT built by AMG.

It is a keeper for life.

Started at the mid section where most of the sheetmetal work was done...
Important to get the style lines straight before paint.
Roof, hood and trunk will also be primered...
Rear window will be pulled first...

Thanks Rich..
I've owned it since May of 1988, have no reason to sell it...
Found the right guy who is extremely talented with sheetmetal and loves what he does...
Ecstatic that I'll hopefully have some years to enjoy it...

Lots of interesting cars in OC over the weekend...major "Cruise" show at the inlet...
Route One/Coastal Highway was full of cars with Jimmy blowers sticking through the hood...
Brought me back to the sixties...

Ed

If you put the red hood back on, as is, its officially my favorite w124, any further work is optional

I honestly still can't get over how wide and awesome the wheels/tires look. What size tires are those, Ed?

Tires are Kumho Ecsta XS, very sticky compound.

Front = 245/40/17 9.8" section width on 17x8 ET17 rims
Rear = 295/35/17 11.9"section width on 17x10 ET-7 rims

Rims are OZ/AMG 3-piece Aero I refurbished and offsets modified by Simal Naik @ Wheel Wizards UK.
The original AMG build used 235/45/17 front and 255/40/17 rear.

295's... Those should cope with the power nicely... Wow.

My car wouldn't spin these on ice!

Hey, Ed;
Wouldn't two-tone be more period correct? Or is that optional?

Are you considering painting the chromed grill surround, AMG-style, to match the body?

BTW, love the fenders!

With time, you could get used to the silver coupe with red pinstripe

All joking aside, looking very clean mid-project.

Tho a whaletail and turrrrrbo written along the side...

I liked that little boot lip arrangement that was on there before. Red car, black detailing, tan seats, very smart!

Mind you there's something primal about the two tone grey with red accent too.
