Outside Temp Gauge

Hi Guys

Anyone know whether the outside air temp gauge was standard or optional on 88 300 CE ? Obviously there is something there to fill in the gap but nothing shows on it. I am wondering whether it is (a) broken or (b) not installed ?

I know I could pull the cluster out but waiting for plasma inserts before I do that. But I figure if it is installed and not working I should be looking to buy a replacement.

Thanks

Should be standard.

Edit; For North American cars. I just realised that you might not be.

Yep way down the other side of the planet - choking on dust from that damn volcano in Chile ! (not literally but they grounded all flights last night just in case)
I guess I will have to wait until I pull the dash cluster and see if there is any leads going out of that module or whether it is a blank.
Not the sort of thing I would have thought of as "optional"

Do you have the sensor bulb which is located at the center of the front bumper beneath the license plate holder?

Alas no the item is not standard over here - I guess if I wanted to add the wiring etc in I could do it but me thinks "I ain't that brave".
Seems a shame to have a blank lcd screen there though albeit a very small one !
Any suggestions guys ?

I just bought my E420 this past Friday. I have similar issue, mine says -36f when you turn the key but goes completely blank afterwards, leaving me with a lit up, blank, LCD screen. I know mine was in a fender bender somewhere along the line so maybe mine is a sensor related issue..I say just live with out it. or get you one of those newer rear view mirrors that do the same thing. Good luck!

If it is a sensor related issue, just have the sensor replaced. I had the same problem, I'd start it and it would give me -38 degrees Celcius. It was a 10 minute job to fix it.

I actually looked and yeah I have the sensor, I think, it's just some metal looking thing at the end of a thick wire, it looks old, and I see know way to replace it, unless you need to cut back on the sheathing of the wire? Is there a DIY post here somewhere on fixing it?

Restroing this thread - I have one - Now where does it go ?

Hi Guys
I thought I had buried this thread but I want to bring it back to the forefront again if I may. I bought a sensor with what seems a very short pigtail.

Now I know where it goes in the instrument cluster but where do all the wires go is the big question !!!

The harness has
Black
Brown
Grey-Blue Stripe
Yellow-Green Stripe

Green and another brown which the supplier has twisted together with the green and brown from the sensor.

Any clues pictures instructions guys ??
Help me out here Haahahhahahahah
